Mae Morris died peacefully at age 93 with her children by her side. She was a longtime resident of Indian River Colony Club (IRCC) in Melbourne, FL, and the family is grateful to the many friends there who played golf with her until she was 89, competed gracefully in bridge and joined her for all the festivities and food at the club. Mae is survived by her five children: Caleb (and wife Vickie) Morris of Tulsa, OK; Doug (and wife Donna) Morris of Charlottesville, VA; Catherine Morris (and husband Rick Bader) of Towson, MD; Janice Morris of Arlington, VA; and Caroline (and husband David) Satchell of Potomac, MD. She was a loving grandmother to her nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Caleb Morris, IV; Justin and David Morris; Matt, Lauren and Julia Bader; Connor and Skylar Satchell; Claire Morris; and Carrington Morris. She was married to Caleb L. Morris, Jr., for 49 years, who preceded her in death. Their years together at IRCC were some of the happiest in their lives. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Geraldine Falk, Evelyn Ault and Chester Johnson.
Mae was born in Ginter, PA, grew up in the small coal mining town of Houtzdale, PA, and raised her family in Charlottesville, VA. She loved working at Ashlawn, the home of James Monroe, when her children got older. Mae and Caleb were also founding members of Meadows Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, VA. She was an avid learner all her life and taught her children the joy of knowledge, the habit of hard work, and the need for a good laugh. She will be dearly missed.
