Melbourne, FL—Edwin David Gimzek, 81, died September 28th at Indian River Center of heart and kidney failure. Ed is survived by his wife, Helen Sabo Gimzek; his son, Jeffrey Gimzek, and his daughters; his daughter, Jenna Kamp, her husband Ted and their son; his brother, Jerry Gimzek, his wife Terry and their children; his step-daughter, Robin LeFort, her husband Randy and their children; his step-son, Tod Elmore, his wife Andrea and their daughter; and many close friends.

Edwin was born in Binghamton, NY, the eldest of two sons of George David and Helen Boyer Gimzek. Inspired by the radio serials he grew up with, he was the first in his family to attend college, and earned a BS in Radio and Television from Ithaca College.

He applied his degree and his clear voice to broadcasting, working in radio and TV in New York and surrounding areas before settling back in the Binghamton area to start a family. There he opened OAC Advertising, Inc., creating radio, television, outdoor and print media.

Ed moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida, in the late 1980s and operated an AMC car parts business with his brother, Jerry.

Ed married Helen Sabo in 1997 and despite a stroke in 2003, Ed shared his good life and 19 happy years with Helen. Ed was an active member of the Friendship Fellowship Unitarian Universalist Church and began singing again in the choir after his stroke. He was an aficionado of classical music, James Bond movies, and terrible puns. His humor, smile, and joie de vive will be missed.
