Robert E. Erickson, 72, passed away Friday, April 8, 2016, in Palm Bay, FL. He was born in Biwabik, MN on December 4, 1943 to Earl and Anne Erickson. Robert graduated from Gilbert High School in 1962, and married Sande Bye in 1968 in Churchs Ferry, ND. Robert was a long-time resident of Biwabik Township, MN before moving to Palm Bay, FL in 2007.
Robert served in the U.S. Air Force for four years beginning in December of 1962, serving as a radar operator first at Truax Air Field, Madison, WI, and then at NAS Keflavik, Iceland.
Robert was employed for 35 years by Erie Mining Company and later LTV Steel as a locomotive engineer, retiring in 2001. Throughout his life Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and after retiring in Florida, watching his grandchildren play in youth soccer and baseball games.
Robert is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sande, and sons Christopher, Satellite Beach, FL, and Matthew, Cedar Rapids, IA, grandchildren Abigail and Ryan, Satellite Beach, FL, sisters Janet Schoenthaler, St. Paul, MN, and Nancy Erickson, Virginia, MN, and brother James Erickson and his daughter Kristine, Gilbert, MN, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces
