Jerry K. Callen, 89, passed away September 24, 2015 in Melbourne, FL. He was born June 17, 1926 in Hooversville, PA, son of the late Walter E. and Mildred R. Callen, and spent his early life in Windber, PA.
Jerry was a retired production manager from Harris Semiconductor. He had previously been a partner with his father and uncle in the family owned Callen Baking Company in Windber, PA, which closed in 1966.
Jerry was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Windber for many years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946, part of the time aboard the light cruiser USS Vicksburg in the Navigation Division as a Quartermaster. He was a 66 year member of the Masonic Cambria Lodge #278, Scottish Rite Valley of Williamsport, and a charter member of Azan Shriners of Melbourne. Jerry was, in early years, an accomplished classical pianist, an avid golfer with two holes in one, and loved dancing.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Doris Higdon Callen, daughters, JeanAnn (Bob) Ulmer, Cynthia Callen, and son Jerry Lee (Katy) Callen. He was blessed with four stepchildren whom he loved as his own, Linda Hazelton, Kay (Barry) Tuttle, Diane (Joe) Bochy and Walter Hazelton. The joys of his life were his eleven grandchildren and eight grandchildren. How great is love!
